In other news, DPG will be playing a sweet show on the 30th of January at Backspace with Jeffrey Jerusalem and Quiet Countries. Jeff will be releasing a remix album that day, and it should be dope.

Oh yes! And remember Church, they're still around, no worries, they're just called Hosannas! And they still bring that same avant pop sound that we love. In fact, there is going to be a SoHiTek House Party really soon with Hosannas, Chrome Wings, DoublePlusGood, and most recent addition, Orca Team. We're leading you into spring in style!

Geez, we're way stoked on this one! SoHiTek is really stoked to announce that we will be releasing Chrome Wing's next release. For those of you that aren't already acquainted with CW, Chrome Wings is the alias of sound designer/audible collage-er/sampling wonder Jon Jurow.

We're hyped on his guitar meets field recording style, and can't wait for this release.

Thats right, finally, a CD release party date. DoublePlusGood will be playing at Ron Toms on May 24th. The show will be celebrating the release of the Dancipation Proclamation (which you can still order right now and get the extra EP!), and will feature Breakfast Mountain as well as Pep Assembly. Stoked? You bet! Anyways, please come out and support the release. Admission is free! Whoohoo, AND the next day is memorial day, so thats the best Sunday night to stay out late.

So DoublePlusGood drummer, Pieter Hilton, is opening his coffee cart tomorrow on the 600 Block of SW Mill.

The cart will be selling $1 12 oz french press coffees, and will be selling the super dank stronger french press coffee for $2.

Pieter will also be selling selected releases from Marriage Records, Boy Gorilla Records, and of course, SoHiTek Records.

Weekend Worship

The CD release shows went off without without a hitch or a hush(even thought thats where one of them was). No sir, plenty of noise to be made by the lads in Church, who played 2 spectacular shows last weekend in celebration of their new release "Gold". In a previous post we mentioned the awesome write ups in the Mercury and the Willamette Week, but we forgot to give a huge shout to the Vanguard who wrote practically a whole page about the band! So what's next you may ask? Well, plenty! DoublePlusGood's new (mini)album is coming soon, and it seems that Church has broken ground on their next release slated to be a 10' vinyl(!!!!) And judging by the new material previewed last weekend, it's going to be amazing. Also, head over to Breakfast Mountain's myspace to check out a sweet remix of their song "Jay Hollerday" done by DoublePlusGood!

Church CD Release Show!!!!

October 24th, Kelly's Olympian, 9:30, Church will be releasing "Gold". Gold has already received a ton of good vibes from the online world, and will definitely be a classic. Come to the show, they'll be playing the EP in it's entirety along with some new shit, along with the Rainy States. The following evening they will be playing an all ages show at the Hush, so if you aren't old enough to go to Kelly's O, don't fret, Church will be giving all ages love!!! We've just put in a yahoo media player, which is pretty bomb. August 25th - Doubleplusgood will be playing on the radio to promote a show on August 27th at the Towne Lounge. Both shows will be with a band called The Delta Mirror, who will be releasing a new cd on the 27th. Tune in, and come on down to the Towne Lounge!

Steal This Beat

I've always loved songs with samples. For whatever reason, I think sampling is such a cool art form, very dada in its origins. Its a very modern idea, like found art almost, to take something from a song, and take it out of context and make something even more banging. The downside is being slapped with a huge lawsuit over your simple sampling fun. So, I sampled a little ditty, which will remain nameless, and thought it'd be fun. After researching what a pain in the ass it would be to get it cleared, I decided not to. I guess most times larger entities, such as major labels won't even reply to responses asking for sample clearance, and it also means I'd have to get two different licenses, one for the recorded property and one for the written property. AND! Even if they do pay attention to my modest plea, it means I could have to wait up 'til 3 months to hear any word back from the powers that be (and they could still say no). So, in conclusion, no, I will not be sampling this certain club jam from the 80s which I love so much but will sadly not be able to include on my EP. I mean, I could be more punk rock about this and say, "Hey Industry, Fuck You! Thats right, the "F" Word!", but really, they could say much worse things back, and take everything I own... So, anyways, what do you guys think about the use in my song ?

Welcome!!!

So This is how it's starting. Crazy exciting. An idea, a sound. This is the beginning of SoHiTek records, and I must say its looking good folks. I've decided to start this blog to track all the steps taken in creating an independent label, and also use it as the official blog of SoHiTek, talking about what records will be coming up, news, stats, etc. All sorts of fun stuff.

Thus far, there is plans for records. The new DoublePlusGood EP, entitled Dancipation Proclamation is set for a July release, and looks to have a 5 song tracklist, some remixes, and possibly the addition of a music video. More to come. Stay tuned.
